1. One person per computer.
2. Patrons must have their Margate Library Card to gain access to the computers. Patrons are limited to a maxium of two 30 minute sessions a day. If there are no reservations on your computer a 30 minute extension will be granted. If a reservation has been placed on your computer, your two sessions will not occur consecutively. Patrons who are not elligible for a library card may purchase a 90 day, temporary internet access card for $3.00.
3. PC Reservation Station: If there are not any available computers, PC Reservation will schedule one for you. At the Reservation Station, type in your bar code and follow the simple directions. A reservation slip prints out telling you what computer number to report to, as well as what time.
4. Do NOT turn off the computers.
5. Do NOT attempt to restart the computers. If the computer “Locks up” or behaves in a strange manner, ask the Librarian for assistance.
6. Printing is 10 cents per page.
7. The staff of the Library must limit the time they spend assisting you. By using the computer, you are acknowledging that you understand—to some degree how to use the Internet. Please be advised, the staff member available to assist you may be unable to answer your questions or show you any more than how to get started.
8. No food or drink is allowed in the library. This rule is strictly enforced in the Computer Resource Center.
9. Individual E-mail accounts are not provided by the Library.
10. Not all sources on the Internet/WWW are reliable. Even the most trusted sources could be incorrect or misinformed. Please consider the validity of all documents before accepting them as truth. Cross reference important information whenever possible.
11. No one under the age of 12 is allowed to use the Internet without a parent or guardian present.
12. All computers accessing the Internet/WWW will be turned off 10 minutes before the Margate Library closes for the day (unless other hours are posted). You will receive a five minute warning before the computers are turned off. Please finish all print jobs and research before your time expires.
13. Please be CAREFUL when giving personal information out to other persons or companies on the Internet/WWW. Personal information includes, but is not limited to: name, address, phone number, social security number, credit card/banking account numbers, and any personal passwords you may have access to.
14. Disruptive behavior or harassment of other users will result in immediate suspension of privileges for no less than 1 day, and for possibly a longer period of time based upon the judgment of the Staff member witnessing the behavior and the Library Director.
15. Any attempts to circumvent, break in, hack, or otherwise disable the security or any attempts to place or download a virus on the computers/network or destruction of Library equipment will be viewed as malevolent attacks against the property of the Margate Library. Persons caught performing one of these actions will have all Internet privileges immediately suspended until the Library Director and or the Board of Trustees reviews the case. Lesser offenses will warrant temporary suspension of privileges, while more severe cases will result in longer terms of suspension and possible legal action.
16. Security software has been installed on Internet/WWW computers that prevent placing or saving any files to the hard drives. Please bring floppy disks (3 ½” and preformatted) if you intend on downloading information. If you forget to bring a disk, you may purchase disks at a charge of $1.00 a piece at the Circulation desk.
17. The Internet/WWW is a global community, and content contained therein may be offensive to some patrons. PLEASE respect other patrons and staff members and do not access sites that are overtly graphic or offensive in nature. The computers in the Library have been made available to our patrons to provide an additional resource for research and education. Abuse of this policy will result in serious restrictions being placed upon everyone’s privileges to access the Internet/WWW.
